Mumbai Indians (MI) veteran opener Rohit Sharma gifted a bat to Rajasthan Royals (RR) bowling coach Shane Bond’s son after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game played between both sides at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on May 1. In Mumbai’s 100-run win over RR, Rohit Sharma chipped in with his composed knock of 53 off 36. It was his third half-century in the tournament. Along with his opening ally, Ryan Rickelton, the 38-year-old stitched a 116-run partnership off just 71 balls and shattered the hosts’ confidence in the game.

Following the contest, when players from both teams met one another, Rohit reunited with Bond, who was the bowling coach of MI from 2015 to 2022. In a clip shared by RR through their official X handle, Rohit looked in a humorous mood and asked the New Zealand bowling legend’s son to make sure that only he uses the bat and that his father doesn’t touch it.

Rohit Sharma hands Orange Cap to Suryakumar Yadav

With a fierce knock of an unbeaten 48 off 23 against RR, Suryakumar Yadav has claimed Orange Cap. The right-handed batter deposed Gujarat Titans’ (GT) opener Sai Sudharsan to earn the top spot. The 34-year-old is currently the leading run-getter with 475 runs in 11 matches at a stellar strike rate of 172.72. After MI’s batting innings in Jaipur, Rohit was seen handing the Orange Cap to Suryakumar.

Sudharsan, who is holding the second place, has racked up 456 runs in 10 games at a strike rate of 150.00. MI will next take on GT at the distinguished Wankhede Stadium on May 6. It will be the second instance in this tournament, when MI and GT will be against each other. Both West Indian teams have locked horns against each other in six IPL encounters with GT winning on four instances while Mumbai bagging two victories.
