Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, returned home at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with the T20 World Cup trophy alongside his teammates on Thursday, July 4. After a lap of honour in front of a packed house, Rohit Sharma headed to the President’s box inside the stadium where he had an emotional meeting with his mother and the rest of the family.
Notably, Rohit Sharma had to get past a plethora of fans looking for a selfie with him, to meet his parents in a long while at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He also requested the people to give him and his family some privacy as they embraced each other.
I can't express my happiness: Rohit Sharma's mother
While talking to the Indian Express, the mother of Rohit Sharma, named Poornima spoke about how she never thought that his son would be winning the T20 World Cup this time around. She said, “I have never thought I would see this day. Before going to the World Cup, he had come to meet us and said that he wanted to quit T20Is after this. I just said try to win. I was not feeling well today and had a doctor’s appointment, but I still came as I wanted to see this day.”
“I can’t express my happiness. Look at the cheering. I have never experienced this kind of atmosphere. The amount of love he is getting is because of his hard work and dedication. I’m the happiest mother today,” she added.
Rohit Sharma’s mother also stated that her son taking a lap of honour was an emotional moment in more ways than one. “What more can I ask now! This day won’t come again in life. As he was taking the lap of honour, it was an emotional moment as he has been playing for a day like this,” remarked Poornima.
