During the all-important IPL 2024 Eliminator between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, when Yashasvi Jaiswal made an error in the field, the captain Sanju Samson angrily told him to “use his brain” with a hand gesture. Although the fielding lapse cost them just four runs, it showed Sanju Samson, known for his calm demeanour on the field, in a new light.
In the last over of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru innings, when every run mattered a bit more, the Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson expected his fielders to be sharp. But, when Karn Sharma ramped a short ball from Sandeep Sharma towards the square point region, the ball went towards Yashasvi Jaiswal, who couldn’t keep his body behind the line, only for it to spin away from him towards the boundary for four runs.
Samson yells at Jaiswal, asks latter to “use his brain”
The moment led to an uncharacteristic reaction from Sanju Samson, who expressed his emotion to Yashasvi Jaiswal, telling him to be mentally switched on in the field. Despite the lapse in the field on a few occasions from the RR fielders, the bowling lineup managed to restrict RCB to a below-par total of 172/8.
In the run chase, the batting lineup of Rajasthan Royals were not at its best, but some key contributions from the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, and Rovman Powell, proved to be enough for them to chase down the total with four wickets in hand and seven balls to spare. This was the first win for RR in the IPL 2024 in nearly three weeks, which puts them one step away from reaching the final of the tournament.
Rajasthan Royals will be taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 2 of the IPL in the 2024 edition, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, May 24. The winner of this match will play against Kolkata Knight in the final of the tournament two days later in the same stadium.
