The World Championship of Legends (WCL) is back with its second edition, currently underway in England. While the India Champions have come into this year’s tournament as inaugural title winners, they are having a forgettable season thus far. After their tournament opener against Pakistan Champions was called off due to withdrawal of several players, they have gone on to lose their following two matches.
While they lost to South Africa Champions by 88 runs with DLS coming into picture after one of the floodlights caught fire, they lost their next game, which was played on Saturday, July 26 against Australia Champions at Headingley, Leeds. While the Yuvraj Singh-led side will hope to win both their remaining matches in order to qualify for the semi-finals.
I still won't play now: Shikhar Dhawan clears air on playing against Pakistan in WCL semi-finals
But ahead of their next game, where they will play the hosts, England Champions on Sunday, July 27 at the Headingley, Leeds, star opener Shikhar Dhawan was questioned on the abandoned Indian versus Pakistan match. When Dhawan was asked if his stand on the matter would remain the same in the semi-finals, the left-handed opening batter lost his cool at the reporter, as he said that such a question shouldn't have been asked.
"You're asking this question at the wrong time and place - you shouldn't have asked it. And even if I didn't play earlier, I still won't play now," Dhawan said.

It is to be noted that the former batter had taken to social media to confirm his withdrawal from the WCL 2025 match against Pakistan, whereas a few other players opted to remain silent and directly confirmed their withdrawal to the organisers. “Jo kadam 11 May ko liya, uspe aaj bhi waise hi khada hoon. Mera desh mere liye sab kuch hai, aur desh se badhkar kuch nahi hota. Jai Hind! ” Dhawan had written hours ahead of the clash.
It is to be noted that the stand from the Indian players came due to the ongoing cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent terror attacks in Pahalgam. However, speaking of the two teams, while Pakistan Champions are sitting at the top with seven points, India Champions are reeling at the bottom-most spot with only one point to their name.
