Sikandar Raza, the Zimbabwean all-rounder, pulled off a stunning catch during a Vitality Blast 2024 clash between Northamptonshire and Worcestershire at the County Ground in Northampton. Adam Hose, who was well on his way to take Worcs over the finish line, got dismissed thanks to the brilliance in field from Sikandar Raza, which led to Northants winning the match by six runs.
The moment happened in the 13th over of the Worcs batting innings when they were in a pursuit of the 170-run target set by Northants. It was Saif Zaib, the left-arm spinner, who induced a false stroke from Adam Hose while dancing down the track before Sikandar Raza sprinted to his right from long off, completing a great diving catch near the boundary rope.
After Adam Hose, who scored 30 off 21 with two fours and two maximums, lost his wicket, Worcestershire stayed in the match through Gareth Roderick’s fighting innings. The youngster Raphael Weatherall picked up the wicket of the Worcs’ wicketkeeper for 39 off 21, in the final over of the innings after being asked to defend 10 runs in his first go with the ball in the match.
Moreover, apart from his fielding exploits, Sikandar Raza scored 42 off 31 with two fours and three maximums, stitching together a 79-run unbeaten stand for the fifth wicket with Saif Zaib. The left-handed batter got 44 off 21 with six fours and two maximums, playing a key role in propelling the total of Northants to 169/4 in their allotted overs.
