All-rounder Thisara Perera has become the first Sri Lankan to smash six sixes in an over in any form of professional cricket. The southpaw achieved the feat playing for Army Sports Cricket Club in SLC's Major Clubs tournament on Sunday. Part-time off-spinner Dilhan Cooray, playing for Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club, was the bowler at the receiving end of Perara's power-hitting. He finished with an unbeaten 13-ball 52. Perera also smashed the second-fastest fifty in List A cricket.

Came in to bat with 20 balls remaining

Perera came in to bat with just 20 balls remaining in their innings truncated to 41 overs. However, he then turned the match on its head in those limited balls. However, despite his heroics, the match had to be abandoned with Bloomfield struggling on 73 for 6 in their chase of 318.

Became the second cricketer to smash 6 sixes in 2021

With this knock, the 31-year-old became the second cricketer in the world to smash six sixes in an over in 2021. Earlier, West Indies captain Kieron Pollard had also achieved the same record, hitting Sri Lanka's Akila Dhananjaya for six sixes in a T20I match. Overall, Perera became the ninth cricketer to achieve this feat after Garfield Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh, Ross Whiteley, Hazratullah Zazai, Leo Carter and Pollard.
