On Thursday (28 July), Ben Stokes posted a video tweet and unveiled the trailer of his documentary titled Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes. The 31-year-old put up a caption as, August 26th, which is the release date for the documentary on Amazon Prime Video.

The documentary will encompass all the highs and lows of Stokes’s career in his personal and professional life. Produced by Whisper, it will feature the award-winning director, Sam Mendes. The yet-to-be-released documentary is likely to focus on World Cup victory and Stokes’ heroics at Headingley in 2019.

However, the pivotal part will be the all-rounder taking an indefinite break from cricket to prioritize his mental health in 2021. It will also cover the most challenging part of the cricketer’s career, wherein he makes a final visit to his ill father, who died in December 2020. Furthermore, the brawl of Stokes outside Bristol club in 2018 can also be seen in the trailer.

Family, friends and team-mates to feature in the documentary

Stokes’ late father, his mother, wife and children along with friends have also made their appearance in Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes. Interestingly, the video also revealed the presence of Stuart Broad, Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Mark Wood, and the late Shane Warne discussing the skill and mental health of the Three Lions captain.

Stokes hopes to bring his viewpoint to the people through this documentary, which has not been translated correctly by the media in recent years.

“One thing I want to try and do with this is to get a side across to people that is quite tough to do in the image that we give across on TV. Certain aspects in the media you have to do in a certain way, to come across in a certain way, to please a certain amount of people whereas for this I don’t feel like I’m having to do that.”

“I still think it’s crazy sat here that there’s a documentary being done about me. And then on top of that having Sam come and do the interviews. The whole thing is a crazy experience still for me to think about.”
