On Thursday, August 8, the United States of America pulled off a stunning comeback to defeat Serbia 95-91 in the semi-final of the men’s basketball event at the Paris Olympics 2024. The American rapper, Travis Scott, was present in the Accor Arena in Paris to enjoy watching the USA get the better of Serbia after being down 17 points at one stage.
Notably, Serbia, led by Nikola Jokic, the three-time NBA MVP, were ahead by 11 points in the fourth quarter, closing in on a famous victory over the USA. But then, Steph Curry and LeBron James, the two of the greatest basketball players of all time, were exceptional for the defending Olympic champion down the home stretch, to help them seal a place in the gold medal match.
Steph Curry led the scoring charts with 36 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:16 left, while LeBron James registered only his fourth triple-double in the history of the Olympics. After taking his team over the finishing line, much to the delight of Travis Scott in attendance, Steph Curry said, “I’ve seen a lot of Team USA basketball. And that was a special one.”
In the post-match interview, the head coach of the USA, Steve Kerr, said, “I’m really humbled to have been a part of this game. It’s one of the greatest basketball games I’ve ever been a part of. They were perfect. They played a perfect game.”
The gold medal match for the men’s basketball event at the Paris Olympics 2024 will be played between the USA and the hosts France on Saturday, August 10.
