Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s childhood coach Sourabh Singh was in tears while discussing the 14-year-old’s father’s effort to make the youngster a cricketer. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on April 28, the former side’s opener Vaibhav pummeled the visitors’ bowling unit and guided his team to a convincing eight-wicket win. The left-handed opener smashed a 35-ball hundred and entered the record books as the batter to hit the second-fastest IPL century. Following the incredible feat, Vaibhav is getting showered with praise.

In a latest development, his childhood coach Sourabh appreciated Sanjeev Suryavanshi for recognising the talent in his son. Appearing in an interview with Star Sports, Suryavanshi’s childhood coach revealed that Vaibhav came to him when he was eight years old. He also revealed the player worked on himself more than his coaches.

“Vaibhav aath saal ke the jab humare paas aaye the, bohot mehnat laga hai iss khiladi pe, lekin iss khiladi ne coaches se zyada mehnat kari hai. Unke pitaji Sanjeevji pehle aise insan the jinhone iss cheez ko believe kiya. Dekho aath saal ki umar mein har din, hafte mein chaar din har din Samastipur se Patna ek bache ko leke aana, jaha bhi hota hu main bolta hu salute hai uss father ko Sanjeev Suryavanshiji ki aapne woh decision liya. Sabse pehle talent pehchanne wale wahi insan hai,” said Suryavanshi’s childhood coach Sourabh on Star Sports.

RR will host Mumbai Indians on May 1

Rajasthan’s next challenge will be against in-form Mumbai Indians (MI) in Jaipur on May 1. Mumbai have performed brilliantly in their last five matches. In their last game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 27, their fast-bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult looked formidable.

Bumrah grabbed 4/22 figures in his four-over spell and registered his best bowling performance in the competition. Boult also chipped in with 3/20 figures in four overs. It will be the first instance when Boult will face his former side RR after parting ways with the 2008 champions after the 2024 season.
