On Friday, December 27, the Indian cricket team suffered yet another batting collapse on Day 2 of the ongoing fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne. While the visitors struggled to do the needful with the ball, eventually restricting the hosts under 500 runs, the batters were struggling similarly with only Yashasvi Jaiswal registering a fifty-plus score.
Skipper Rohit Sharma had a forgettable outing, getting dismissed at the score of three off five deliveries, KL Rahul, who was demoted at No. 3 also could not replicate his previous performances from the ongoing series as he got got after scoring 24 off 42 deliveries. India also lost Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in a bizarre mix-up involving Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli gets booed from MCG crowd on Day 2
While Virat Kohli has been in the heat of the moment since the team landed in Melbourne after drawing the third BGT Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, he was involved in a new controversy following his shoulder-bump incident with debutant Sam Konstas on Day 1. The incident unfolded after the 10th over of the Australian first innings, leading to Virat Kohli also getting penalised for his actions by the International Cricket Council (ICC). This incident did not rest well among the Australian fans as well as pundits alike, with several slamming the veteran Indian batter.
The heat of the moment could also be seen on Day 2 of the ongoing Boxing Day Test as the 36-year-old was welcomed by boos as he stepped out to take the field soon after KL Rahul’s dismissal. Although, Kohli kept things subdued, he was once again the centre, getting boos from the MCG crowd after he walked off the field following his cheap dismissal.
With Alex Carey taking a simple catch behind the wickets off Scott Boland’s delivery, Virat Kohli was forced to walk off the field, having scored 36 off 86 deliveries. As he had to walk out of the field with a heavy heart, Kohli was triggered by something said from a spectator amid the loud booing. The 36-year-old returned to confront the person, but a MCG official put hand on Kohli’s shoulder’s to clam him and walk him away.

Speaking of the match, India at stumps on Day 2 trail by 310 runs with Rishabh Pant (6 off 7) an ravindra Jadeja (4 off 7) in the middle. For the hosts, Pat Cummins and Scott Boland have so far found themselves among the wickets, picking two each.
