In the inaugural match of the International Masters League (IML) 2025, Yuvraj Singh took an excellent ripper to get rid of Sri Lanka Masters top-order batter Lahiru Thirimanne. The opening match between both sides saw India emerging victorious by only four runs. Stuart Binny, who produced a 68-run knock off 31, became the recipient of the Player of the Match (POTM) award. Earlier batting first after losing the toss, India Masters posted 222/4 with the help of elegant knocks from Binny, Yusuf Pathan (unbeaten 56 off 22), and Gurkeerat Singh Mann (44 off 32). Defending the massive score, India Masters contained their opponents on 218/9. Irfan Pathan became the leading wicket-taker for the hosts as the speedster bagged 3/39 figures in his four-over spell.

During the eighth over of the second innings, the Lahiru Thirimanne hit towards long-on on Irfan Pathan’s delivery. Deployed in that position, Yuvraj was seen sealing a flying and diving blinder. The catch stunned commentators as they were impressed by the agility of the 43-year-old. Back in the 2000s, Yuvraj was considered one of the best fielders in Team India. His catch reminded his supporters of the 2000s era when Yuvraj used to be an integral part of the national side.

Yusuf Pathan scintillates the IML opener with his brisk fifty

In the IML opener, Yusuf Pathan pummelled Sri Lanka Masters with his ferocious batting style. Former India all-rounder came at number six and hit his fifty in just 20 balls. In the penultimate over of the innings, he dominated left-arm pacer Isuru Udana and collected 29 overs for his side.

Taking Udana to the cleaners, he smashed him for five boundaries which included three maximums and two fours. Yusuf’s batting efforts helped India Masters reach 222/4 in their 20 overs. After clinching the close win, India Masters will next take on England Masters on February 25 in Navi Mumbai.
