Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in a league of his own. Each time critics say that he is over, the star footballer proves them wrong by producing an inspiring performance. And the 40-year-old once again grabbed headlines as he netted the 400th league goal of his career as Italian giants AC Milan beat their rival from the capital, AS Roma 2-1.

Ibra opened the scoring for Milan in this match as he scored in the 25th minute with a free-kick. The thunderous strike that found the back of the net was also his 150th in Serie A, having also played for Juventus and Inter Milan in Italy.

Zlatan has had a remarkable career and has played professional football for over two decades now - scoring his first career league goal in 1999 for Swedish side Malmo. So far, he has played in seven countries, having won titles in as many as four of them.

"The secret to my longevity is in my mind, as I am trying to prove that 40 is just a number and I can continue to do what I love," told a channel as quoted in The Week.

"I have nothing more to prove, but I don’t want to retire and then regret it, thinking I could’ve continued. I don’t want to stop until I am kicked out, well and truly finished," he added.

Here is Ibrahimovic's 400th league goal:

Other than the Swede, it was midfielder Franck Kessie who scored Milan’s other goal more or less sealing them a win. However, Stephan El Shaarawy managed to pull one goal back in the stoppage time as a consolation.

The defeat was Roma coach Jose Mourinho's first home defeat in the Italian league in as many as 43 matches. Mourinho had previously coached Inter Milan a decade ago and now is in charge of the rival side.

Meanwhile, the win has taken Milan to the top of the league table with Napoli. Both sides have only dropped two points in 11 matches and have set up a good title fight between them with some of the other clubs not very far behind.
