On Tuesday, September 12, Team India defeated Sri Lanka in Colombo to qualify for the Asia Cup 2023 final while South Africa bounced back against Australia with a dominating win after losing two consecutive ODIs. Here, in this article, we will look at all the cricket action that took place on Tuesday.

India beat Sri Lanka  to qualify for Asia Cup 2023 final

Team India played two back-to-back matches on Monday and Tuesday against Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively and managed to win both games with a good margin. While the game against Pakistan was a high scoring for India, Sri Lanka restricted the Men in Blue to 213 runs. However, India bowlers Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj displayed a formidable performance to help their side register a 41-run victory at the  R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The 20-year-old Dunith Wellalage played a lone ranger's inning for Sri Lanka as he scalped five wickets that included Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya while he scored an unbeaten 42 off 46 during the chase.

South Africa dominated Australia by 111 runs

After losing the first two matches of the five-match ODI series, South Africa announced their comeback in style as they thrashed the Aussies by 111 runs in the third ODI at Senwes Park in  Potchefstroom, South Africa. Batting first, the Proteas set a huge target of 339 runs as Aiden Markram (102*), Quinton de Kock (82), and Temba Bavuma (57) took charge. During the chase, no Aussie batsman other than David Warner (78) was able to score a half-century as Gerald Coetzee picked up four wickets while Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj took two wickets each to end the visitors' inning at 227 runs in 35 overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal marked his arrival in County Championship

After being snubbed from India's ODI World Cup 2023 squad, star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal joined Kent County Cricket Club for the remaining matches in the County Championship. The 33-year-old announced his arrival in style as he picked his first wicket with a dream-leg break delivery to finish with a three-wicket haul against Nottinghamshire in the first innings. Nottinghamshire has been forced to follow on and lost half of their side without surpassing Kent's lead. Chahal has been wicketless in the second inning after bowling 13 overs till stumps.

 Pakistan face injury scare

After losing their star pacers due to injuries during the Super 4 match against India on Monday, Pakistan are dealt with a major blow as reports have emerged suggesting that Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah could miss the remainder of the Asia Cup 2023 matches. Although the team have not given any official update on the players, the PCB  drafted Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan as backups for Haris Rauf and Naseem for the remainder of Asia Cup 2023.

Kuldeep Yadav becomes fastest Indian spinner to 150 ODI wickets

During the Super 4s match against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, Kuldeep Yadav continued his strong performance and picked up four wickets to end the host nation's hopes while chasing a 214-run target. After dismissing five batsmen on Monday, Yadav registered four wickets in the game against Sri Lanka. With his four-wicket haul against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, Kuldeep became the fastest Indian spinner to reach 150 ODI wickets.

It was great: Trent Boult on his return to New Zealand's squad

Boult asked for his release from New Zealand's central contract last year and the 34-year-old is delighted to return to the Kiwi squad for international cricket ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. Boult was also named in New Zealand's provisional 15-member squad and the Kiwi star said, " It was great to be back in familiar surroundings. It was a very good feeling, chucking back on the black ODI kit - and on the side, the individual milestone of 100 games added to that feeling as well."

New Zealand are on a white-ball tour in England and after leveling the 4-match T20I series 2-2, the Kiwis will look to win the four-match ODI series against the Three Lions. Both sides registered a win each in the first two ODIs and will look to take the lead in the third ODI on Wednesday.
