The highly-anticipated ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States of America and West Indies is around the corner with hosts the USA and West Indies squaring off against Canada and Papua New Guinea respectively on the opening day. Ahead of the ninth edition of the shortest-format World Cup, the ICC announced the teams and players of the year across formats.

Nicholas Pooran's 75 off 25 helps West Indies beat Australia by 35 runs

In the warm-up game between West Indies and Australia ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, the World Cup co-hosts beat the mighty Aussies by 35 runs. Windies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran smashed eight sixes and five fours as he registered 75 runs in just 25 balls while skipper Rovman Powell smashed 52 off 25 followed by Shurfane Rutherford's unbeaten 47-off-18. For the Aussies, Adam Zampa picked up two wickets but gave away 62 runs in his four overs. During the chase, Josh Inglis lacked support from his team as he smashed 55 off 30 while Gudakesh Motie and Alzarri Joseph picked two wickets each.

The authorities in New York have tightened security for the highly anticipated India versus Pakistan clash in the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to take place on June 9, after ISIS-K called for a "Lone Wolf Attack". Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has been denied a visa by the US Embassy in Nepal ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. With this decision, Lamichhane will not be able to represent his country in the World Cup. The 23-year-old was proven innocent in his sexual assault case which led to his suspension from the Nepal national team over the last two years.

BCCI announces India Women's squad for multi-format series against South Africa

The Women’s Selection Committee on Thursday announced India’s squad for the upcoming multi-format IDFC First Bank series against South Africa. India and South Africa's women's teams will face each other in a three-match ODI series followed by a one-off Test and a three-match T20I series. Harmanpreet Kaur was named the captain for all three formats while Smriti Mandhana will be her deputy.
