She took to Instagram to announce her decision stating, “I am heartbroken to announce that I will miss my first WTA Finals in Cancun. Together with the team and doctors we tried everything till the last moments to resolve my wrist injury. Unfortunately, the time needed for the recovery is longer that we would’ve hoped for and therefore I had to make this unpleasant decision.”
Carlos Alcaraz surpasses Novak Djokovic in world’s most searched athletes of 2023
The young tennis ace, Carlos Alcaraz might not have aced the 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic on the tennis court, but has edged over in the list of most searched athletes of 2023. Notably, Alcaraz is seventh in the list with 60 million searches with Novak taking the eighth spot with 58.4 million searches.

Ajax Amsterdam have sacked manager Maurice Steijn after the Eredivisie after a run of four league defeats left them second from bottom. The 49-year-old Steijn joined Ajax in June on a three-year deal after a season at Sparta Rotterdam but their only league win came against promoted Heracles at the start of the campaign. The development was confirmed by the club on Monday.
Panathinaikos vs Olympiakos called off after player hit by firecracker
A Greek Super League match between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos was abandoned on Sunday after a player was attacked by a firecracker. Panathinaikos full back Juan 'Juankar' Carlos was warming up on the sideline after halftime and was hit by the firework and needed to be taken off the pitch on a stretcher. The game at the Georgios Karaiskakis Football Stadium was called off at 1-1.
FA slaps $48,924 fine on Leeds United after Eddie Howe incident
The English FA has fined Leeds United with a fee of 40,000 pounds ($48,924) after Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe was ambushed by a supporter during the Premier League game at Elland Road in May, the FA said on Monday. The fan received a 12-week prison sentence and a lifetime ban by Leeds following the incident in the 2-2 draw on May 13. Leeds were also warned about their future conduct as per the FA’s statement, with 20,000 pounds of the fine suspended until the end of the 2024-25 season.
FIFA and UEFA to post Israel games amidst Gaza conflict
Four of Israel men's and women's national teams have been rescheduled for November as per FIFA on Monday. UEFA called off all matches scheduled in the country earlier this month due to the Israel-Hamas conflict. The rescheduled games will be played around the existing November international windows as per FIFA. Israel’s games against Kosovo and Switzerland (Euro 2024 Group I qualifiers) will now take place on November 12 and November 15 respectively.
