Former India tennis player Leander Paes became the first Asian man to get nominated for the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Coming to Asiad, the Asian Games 2023 volunteers did an impossible job and found a switched-off cell phone in a stadium with a  10,000  sitting capacity.

Leander Paes becomes first Asian man to get nominated for International Tennis Hall of Fame

Former India tennis player Leander Paes became the first Asian man to get nominated for the International Tennis Hall of Fame in the player category. The 18 Grand Slams winner Paes is one of the six nominees announced for the class of 2024. Other names of nominees include  Cara Black, Ana Ivanovic, Carlos Moya, Daniel Nestor and Flavia Pennetta. 

After the nominations were announced, the 50-year-old said, "It means the world to me that I am the first Asian man to be nominated for the International Tennis Hall of Fame in the Player Category."

Volunteers locate switched-off cell phone in 10,000-seater stadium

The volunteers of the Asian Games 2023, going on in Hangzhou, China, solved a nearly impossible task as they located a switched-off cell phone in a stadium. The stadium spanned 5,23,000 sq. m and had a sitting capacity of 10,000. Notably, a 12-year-old Chinese chess player Liu Tian-yi lost her phone in the stadium. However, the group of volunteers went through every trash bag and finally found the lost device in less than 24 hours.

Indian men's football team coach Igor Stimac praised the team on their qualification to the Round of 16 for the first time in 13 years. Stimac took to Twitter and mentioned how the team completed their sleep at airports and completed recovery sessions in parks in China. 

Stimac wrote, "From completing their sleep in airports to activation/ recovery sessions in parks in China, I wanted to personally show my appreciation to all my players here at the Asian Games. These boys are thorough professionals and doing everything they can to make India proud."

"Against all odds, we have obtained our primary goal of qualifying for the last 16 and these players deserve all your love and praise."

Punjab's Sift Kaur Samra clinches gold in women’s 50m rifle 3P

Punjab's Sift Kaur Samra clinched gold in the women's 50m rifle 3 position event at the ongoing Asian Games 2023. Not only this, but Samra also broke the record of the British shooter Seonaid McIntosh of 467 points as she shot 469.6 in the final. With her gold, Samra took India's overall medal tally to 18 at the 19th edition of the continental multi-sport event. 

Indian women's hockey team defeats Singapore 13-0 in season opener

The Indian women's hockey team defeated Singapore in their first match of the Asian Games 2023 13-0 on Wednesday, September 27. India's Sangeeta Kumari scored a hattrick to win their side's first match in the tournament. Apart from Sangeeta, here are the players who scored goals for India in the match:

Indian women's squash team beats Pakistan 3-0

The Indian women's squash team comprising  Joshna Chinappa, Anahat Singh and Tanvi Khanna beat arch-rivals Pakistan 3-0 in the continental tournament. Anahat Singh gave a lead to the team's 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-3) win over Sadia Gul. Joshna Chinappa then defeated Noor Ul Huda Sadiq 3-0 (11-2, 11-5, 11-7) before Tanvi Khanna beat Noor Ul Ain Ijaz 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-2) to wrap up the tie. 

I'm delighted for my team and my nation, but I need to improve personally: Manini Kaushik on her setback in Asian Games

Indian women's 50m rifle shooter Manini Kaushik said that though she is happy about the team's feat, she feels the need to improve her records. Notably, the Indian women's 50m rifle 3 secured a silver medal at the Asian Games, while Kaushik failed to secure an individual medal. 

Kaushik said, "I'm happy for my teammates and our silver medal in the team competition. I may not have an individual medal, but I'm not returning empty-handed, and that brings me joy. My happiness is for my country, my teammates, my support staff, and everyone involved." 

Kaushik added "They were both happy and sad tears. I'm delighted for my team and my nation, but I recognize the need to improve personally."

Moto GP announces 2024 provisional calendar

After the successful completion of Moto GP 2023, the Moto GP revealed its calendar for the 2024 season, which will begin on March 10, and include a total of 22 rounds. The calendar or the 2024 season will feature a total of four Spanish venues, with races at Jerez, Catalunya, Aragon and Valencia. 

The Indian GP will take place from September 20 to 22 at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida, Delhi NCR.

Sofyan Amrabat said that he worked his entire life to be where he was during his Manchester United debut. Not only this, but he also hailed the match night between United and Crystal Palace as the perfect night.

Amrabat told Sky Sports, "I think it was a perfect night. Since I was I'm a child I work for this, my whole career, my whole life.  "It's Tuesday and the whole stadium is full, fantastic."
