Raphinha, the Brazilian and FC Barcelona winger, is at the flag end of a stellar 2024-25 season with the Catalan giants, scoring a whopping 34 goals and providing 25 assists across all competitions in 56 appearances. With his incredible run of form in front of goal, Barcelona ended up completing a domestic treble in Spain, winning the coveted La Liga title along with Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup trophies.
After joining Barca in 2022 in a big move from Leeds United, the early stages of Raphinha’s career in Spain was far from ideal as he struggled to perform consistently and stayed on the bench more often than not, scoring just 13 La Liga goals in his first two seasons. With that, he was one of the players who were expected to be let go by Barcelona in the summer of 2024, keeping in mind the financial issues of the club.
Raphinha signs contract extension to stay FC Barcelona until 2028
But, the Brazilian managed to survive the axe, and he turned his career around in Barcelona in grand fashion during the ongoing 2024-25 season. With his 18 goals in La Liga this campaign - still a match to be played - Raphinha played a key role in securing the coveted title for the Blaugrana, and following that, he has just signed a new deal with them, which will keep him in Spain until 2028.
In his first comments after signing a contract extension with Barcelona, he was quite happy apart from sharing his dream at the club. He was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “It's something very special, and feeling part of the Barca family for another year makes me feel very happy. I've told my family before that my dream is to be here until the end of my career and I hope to be able to do so but at my best level.”
Moreover, with incredible performances at an individual level apart from Barcelona winning three trophies in the 2024-25 season, Raphinha is expected to be one of the candidates for the Ballon d’Or award along with his young teammate Lamine Yamal.
