Star India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has risen back to where he belonged after missing more than a year of cricket due to a horrific car accident, he met with in December 2022. Although, the cricketer suffered life-threatening injuries, renowned orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who led his treatment has finally broken silence.

It is to be noted that Pant was driving from Delhi to his hometown Roorkee on December 30, 2022 when he met with the accident as he lost control of the vehicle. However, the car crashed into the divider on the highway and caught fire, people on the road were quick to rush and help take out Pant from the car, leaving him with multiple injuries.

Am I ever going to play again?: Dr Pardiwala reveals Pant’s first question

Although, the batter had to struggle a lot, but fought bravely to mark his return. As he is back on the field, playing for India, his surgeon, Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala revealed of the accident. “To be in an accident like this, where the car actually overturns and blows up, the risk of death os extremely high,” he said. The surgeon further went on to reveal the first question the 27-year-old had asked.

When being inquired of Pant’s first concern, Pardiwala revealed that the cricket first questioned, “Am I ever going to be able to play again?” The renowned surgeon thereafter revealed that his mother had a more grounded question as she asked, “Is he ever going to be able to walk again?”

The esteemed doctor, who is often seen looking after a lot of sports personalities and even traveled with the Indian contingent for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, further spoke of Pant’s determination to return. “His question then was: ok, assuming that we do manage to get there, how long is it going to be?’ I said: ‘Probably looking at 18 months to get back to competitive cricket’.”

Seeing the wicketkeeper-batter’s return, his recovery was faster than expected. After meeting with the accident in December 2022, he spent majority of the 2023 at NCA and returned to the field in IPL 2024, but played as a pure batter. He continued his rehabilitation and returned to full fledged action thereafter and is currently playing in England in the five-match Test series.
