The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 resumption wasn’t the one that was expected as rain delayed the start of the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, rain was in foreecast for Saturday, May 17’s match, but tables turned as it started to pour in, delaying the toss.
For the unversed, the Ryal Challengers Bengaluru are placed second in the points table with 16 points to their name, whereas the the former champions are fighting for a spot in the top four as they currently reel at the sixth place with 11 points. While a win for KKR tonight will keep their hopes for making the playoffs alive, a defeat will put an end to their campaign.
What will happen if RCB vs KKR match gets washed out?
However, with rain still pouring in Bengaluru, let’s take a look at what might happen if the game gets washed out. If rain does disrupt the game and leads to abadonment without a result, it will hamper the future of both teams. KKR will officially be eliminated for the tournament, joining Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Whereas, an abdoned match would give both teams a point each. Moreover, it won’t make much impact for KKR, RCB with a point will replace Gujarat Titans at the top of the points table. However, this alone won’t guarantee them a place in the playoffs and would still need a win to officially secure a spot in the final four.
