In a shocking turn of events, on Friday, May 9, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 amid the ongoing escalating tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attacks. The decision by the BCCI comes to a close after high-stakes meeting between the top brass took place across the last few hours, in order to decide the future of the tournament.
However, with 58 matches already completed in the tournament, it is to be seen how the BCCI holds the remaining 16 matches of the 18th edition with the tournament suspended as of now. Notably, it came after the last match, which was played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala was called off abruptly due to security concerns.
IPL 2025 likely to be pushed back to September window amid doubts over Asia Cup
But, coming back to when the IPL 2025 could possibly be resumed, the BCCI hasn’t still confirmed on it after suspending the tournament for an indefinite period. Meanwhile, several reports have claimed that it could be pushed back to September, with Asia Cup 2025 possibly getting canceled.
Furthermore, reports in the TOI state that it could also be held in the August-September window, only if the tensions die down. However, an update is soon expected to come from the BCCI, but the Indian cricket board at the moment is ensuring all players, along with support staff members are safe and not in a state of panic amid the heightened tensions.
