Pakistan opener Saim Ayub, who suffered a horrific right ankle fracture last month, is making good progress on his road to recovery, and his involvement in the upcoming New Zealand tour in March will depend on clearing various fitness tests and medical requirements. According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the 22-year-old will continue his rehabilitation in England, and the officials are hoping for his swift recovery from ankle injury.
Notably, Saim Ayub suffered the right ankle fracture during the second Test of the two-match series against South Africa on January 3, at the Newlands in Cape Town. Following a list of comprehensive MRI scans, X-rays, and medical assessments, the young rising sensation of Pakistan cricket was ruled out from competitive action for 10 weeks from the time his injury was sustained.
Saim Ayub could make it to the upcoming tour of New Zealand next month upon injury recovery
After being ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be played at home in Pakistan, Saim Ayub could make it to the upcoming tour of New Zealand next month, if his recovery from injury is fully complete. As per the Future Tours Programme (FTP), Pakistan are scheduled to play five T20Is and three ODIs in New Zealand from March 16 to April 5, and within just three days’ time, the new season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will begin.
In his young career, which began in March 2023, Saim Ayub has made 44 appearances for Pakistan in international cricket. Before his unfortunate injury on the tour to South Africa, the left-handed batter won the player of the series award for scoring 235 runs in three innings at an average of 78.33 as Pakistan whitewashed the hosts 3-0 in the three-match ODI series.
