Kochi-born Kiran George was a name nobody knew before the Thailand Open 2023 but he has made a claim to fame as he stormed into the Quarterfinals by beating World No.26 Hong Yang Weng in straight sets 21-11,21-19. The Indian has exceeded anyone’s expectations at the Thailand Open 2023 by qualifying for the quarterfinals.

Kiran George had an excellent 2022, winning the Odisha Open and reaching the third round at the Orlean Masters and these performances led to a top-50 finish for the first time in his career. He has had a below-average 2023 but George has punched above his weight at the Thailand Open 2023 comfortably beating former World No.2 Shi Yu Qi in the round of 32 in straight sets, 21-18,22-20 and then beating Hong Yang Weng in the round of 16. George will face T. Popov in the quarterfinals on Friday, June 2.  The 22-year-old is another Prakash Padukone academy player who is making waves in the Indian Badminton scene.
