Bihar spinner Suman Kumar achieved a new record during the Cooch Behar Trophy fixture against Rajasthan at Moin Ul Haq Stadium in Patna. The left-arm spinner scalped 10 wickets in an innings as Bihar bowled Rajasthan out for 182 runs, to take a lead of 285 runs on the first innings. With his great performance, the 18-year-old became the third bowler to achieve the feat of 10-wickets in an innings in the history of the Cooch Behar Trophy, which also included a hat-trick.

It is the second instance that a bowler has taken all 10 wickets in an innings in the ongoing domestic season in Indian cricket. Haryana’s Anshul Kamboj also achieved the same milestone when the right-arm pacer took all 10 wickets in the first innings of the Ranji Trophy match against Kerala on November 13. Now, after a few weeks, Suman Kumar has also etched his name in the history books at the age of just 18 years in the Cooch Behar Trophy.

They call me Bihar ka Jaddu: Suman Kumar

After his record-breaking achievement, Suman Kumar said that people often compare him with the star Indian spinner Ravindra Jajdeja. "Mujhe Bihar ka Jaddu kehte hain (They call me Bihar’s Ravindra Jadeja)," he was quoted as saying by the Times of India. "It was a batting pitch and a flat wicket. Bowlers were expected to struggle on this track. After we were put in to bat, we put 467 on the board. Rajasthan is a strong team, but their batters struggled from the start," he further added.

Talking about the match, Bihar posted 467 in the first innings with Dipesh Gupta (183* off 381) and Prithvi Raj (128 off 136) being the top two scorers. In reply, Rajasthan were bowled out for 182 runs, and were forced to follow-on. In the second innings, Parth Yadav shone with 200*(441) along with skipper Toshit’s captain’s knock of 126(248) runs as Rajasthan scored 441/5 before the match ended in a draw.
