On Wednesday, April 10, Rajasthan Royals left out the South African fast bowler, Nandre Burger, from their playing XI against Gujarat Titans in the 24th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The 28-year-old, who has been one of the top performers for RR in the bowling department, wasn’t named in the impact substitutes list, and the captain Sanju Samson didn’t give a reason to the contrary either.
In his four appearances in the debut IPL season, Nandre Burger has already picked up six wickets for Rajasthan Royals, at an average of 20.66 and an economy of 8.44. The left-arm fast bowler has complemented Trent Boult in the powerplay stages, apart from picking up wickets in the death overs, adding to the RR bowling depth.
Although Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, didn’t divulge on the reason for Nandre Burger missing out on playing against Gujarat Titans, he didn’t mind being put in to bat first by the Gujarat Titans captain, Shubman Gill, although his preference was to bowl first. The 29-year-old was thankful for the support he has received from the Rajasthan Royals fans, on the big occasion of captaining the franchise for the 50th time in his IPL career.
Sanju Samson also alluded to the challenges that the Rajasthan Royals have faced in the IPL 2024 season, despite their four-match winning streak in the earlier stages of the tournament. He also wanted the team to keep on concentrating on the process, which has brought them early success this season.
