On Monday, April 28, Shubman Gill, the captain of Gujarat Titans (GT), was subbed out before Rajasthan Royals (RR) began their pursuit of the 210-run target in the match 47th of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Ishant Sharma replaced Shubman Gill as the impact substitute, while Rashid Khan took over the leadership reins from him as the stand-in captain, but there is no confirmation about why the GT captain couldn’t take the field tonight.
Notably, Shubman Gill played an exceptional innings in the first half of the match, scoring 84 runs in 50 balls with five fours and four maximums, to play a key role in GT putting a big score of 209/4 on the board in their allotted 20 overs. He was put down by Vaibhav Suryavanshi on 33 runs at one stage in his innings, and then the opening batter not only went past his fifty, but also scored further.
In the absence of Shubman Gill in the field as captain, GT faced an early onslaught from RR openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, with the latter scoring a fifty in just 17 balls, becoming the youngest in IPL history to achieve this feat. After the first five overs of RR innings, they had already raced to 81 runs without losing any wickets, putting themselves in a very good position to chase down the 210-run target.
