On day two of the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, the Indian cricket team got back to the field, hoping to wrap up the Aussie innings under 400. However that wasn’t the case early on Friday, December 27, as on the back of Steve Smith’s century, they went upto put 474 runs on the board of the fourth Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Moreover, the Indian subcontinent was dealt with a massive blow as the country lost its former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh on Thursday, December 26. However, the former PM had been battling health issues for a while now, he breathed his last on Thursday night in Delhi.

After the demise of the former Prime Minister of India, the Indian cricket team were seen sporting black armbands as a mark of respect. "The Indian Cricket Team is wearing black armbands as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh who passed away on Thursday," the BCCI handle wrote on X (formerly Twitter.)

Speaking of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test, Australia resumed their innings from 311/6. On Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test, Australia added 163 runs to their overnight score with Steve Smith and Pat Cummins dictating the terms. Smith slammed his 34 th  Test century and Cummins fell just one run short of his fifty as the duo stitched 112-run stand for the seventh wicket. For India, Jasprit Bumrah once again shone, picking four wickets, followed by Ravindra Jadeja picking three. Akash Deep completed two wickets, whereas Washington Sundar finished with just one wicket.
