On Wednesday, May 7, the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are taking on five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match number 57 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, both teams are coming into this fixture on the back of contrasting results, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side are fighting for a spot in the final four.
As the two skippers walked out for the toss, it was KKR captain, Ajinkya Rahane, who came out on top and decided to bat first. "We will bat first. Looks a good wicket. Last two games we batted first and did really well. We want to put runs on the board and defend it," Rahane said.
Venkatesh Iyer misses out after stitches on hand; Manish Pandey comes in
Later, the KKR skipper was also inquired of the team combination for the match, to which he confirmed a change in their XI. Rahane confirmed that Venkatesh Iyer, who has been the most expensive player in the KKR squad, misses out due to stitches in hand. “Venkatesh Iyer misses out, Manish Pandey comes in,” the Indian batter said.
On the other hand, CSK also come out with a few changes in their XI. At the toss, MS Dhoni confirmed that Devon Conway returns in place of Shaik Rasheed and young Urvil Patel, who came in as a replacement for Vansh Bedi, replaced Sam Curran in the XI.
