The auction for the first-ever edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is all set to be held on Monday (13 February). Players from across the globe will go under the hammer and will be picked up by one of the five teams- Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and UP Warriors. 

A total of 409 women cricketers will await their fate while the five teams engage in an intense bidding war at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. Out of these 409 players, 246 are Indians and 163 are overseas players of which 8 players are from associate nations. The total number of capped players is 202, uncapped players are 199 and 8 are from associate nations.

However, there is not a single player from Pakistan Women’s cricket team. The reason being the geopolitical tensions between the two neighbouring countries. While the auction for the inaugural edition of the Men’s IPL had Pakistan players in the mix, there will be no Pakistani player at the Women’s Premier League auction. 

Talking more about the WPL 2023 Auction, out of the 409 players, only 90 can be picked. All five teams can pick up to a maximum of 18 players while they can keep a minimum of 15 players in their squad. There are five base price slots- 50 lakhs, 40 lakhs, 30 lakhs, 20 lakhs, and 10 lakhs. In the top base price category, there are a total of 24 players including India captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana.
