Former India cricketer and one of the most versatile all-rounders in the Indian cricket setup during his playing days, Irfan Pathan recently appeared in an interview on Lallantop. The 40-year-old, who was last seen donning the India Champions jersey in the second edition of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) last month, dropped some shocking revelations during his recent interaction.
Speaking with Saurabh Dwivedi, the host of the prime The Lallantop Show, the younger of the Pathan brothers revealed the story behind him being sacked from the commentary stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. However, it became the talk of the town, but the former India all-rounder has now revealed all the details around the same.

However, there were speculations that Irfan Pathan’s on-air criticism around Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during the Australia Test series led to his sacking, but the 40-year-old has finally broken silence on the matter, denying those reports. Irfan Pathan clarified that his comments about the Pandya brothers led to this and it wasn’t comments around Rohit-Kohli which led to it. However, he added that his comments weren’t overly harsh given his role as a broadcaster, but accepted that it is what it is.
“If I’m criticising you in seven matches out of 14, I’m still being lenient. That is our job as broadcaster,” he began. Although, the 40-year-old clarified that there isn’t any rivalry and has always supported cricketers from Baroda. “There is no rivalry. All the Baroda players who have come after me — Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya or Hardik Pandya — none of them can say that Irfan-Yusuf did not help them," he continued.

Highlighting on Irfan Pathan’s support to Hardik Pandya, the former India all-rounder recalled an incident from 2012 when he recommended Hardik to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He also added that later on, VVS Laxman accepted to not listening on his advise at that time, stating, “VVS Laxman admitted on Star Sports, that he was at fault for not listening to me, and not picking Hardik in 2012. If he had picked him then, Hardik would have played for Hyderabad.”
