The five-time champions Mumbai Indians will open their IPL 2023 campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday (April 3) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Mumbai-based franchise will aim to start afresh after their disappointing outing in IPL 2022.

However ahead of this clash, there were reports of MI skipper missing the opening match after possibility of some injury. Days prior to the start of the tournament, several media outlets reported that the Team India skipper is having some troubles with his health and might miss the first match.

Meanwhile on April 2 (Saturday), Mumbai Indians Head Coach Mark Boucher confirmed that Rohit will lead the side and is 100 per cent fit. “Yes, Rohit is fit. H e trained the last two days and is 100 per cent ready to go. I think he didn’t feel particularly well that morning and just as a precaution, we told him to stay at home,” Boucher said at the pre-match press conference.

It is to be noted that Rohit Sharma missed the captain’s photoshoot at Narendra Modi Stadium on the eve of the tournament. Addressing this, Boucher added, “There are a lot of photo shoots the boys have had to do. He’s not had a lot of time to himself so we thought it was better.”
