The World Squash Championships Asia Qualifier 2025 is witnessing a great start for Indian players. Anahat Singh, Veet Chotrani, and Tanvi Khanna had a great time advancing in their respective games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Anahat and Veer advanced to the semis, while Tanvi reached the quarterfinals. The 63rd-ranked Veer Chotrani, who is leading the men’s singles, reached the semifinals after defeating home favourite Mohammad Syafiq Kamal on Friday, April 18. Chotrani, the second seed, defeated his sixth-seeded opponent with a scores of 9-11, 11-6, 11-6, and 11-7 to advance to the final four.
Anahat Singh, 17, who was seeded fifth, defeated Japan's Akari Midorikawa 11-1, 11-7 11-5 in the women's quarterfinals. She will next face Hong Kong's eighth-seeded Helen Tang in the semifinals on Saturday, April 19. If Chotrani makes it to the final and wins the event, he will join Ramit Tandon, Abhay Singh, and Velavan Senthilkumar, all of whom have previously qualified for the World Championship.
Tanvi Khanna defeats top-seeded in the first round
In women’s singles, besides Anahat Singh, Tanvi Khanna, who won the first round over the top-seeded player (11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 12-10), defeated the Hong Kong player, N Ching Cheng, ranked 76th, to book a place in the quarterfinals. Tanvi will meet Hong Kong's Helen Tang in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Second seed Akanksha Salunkhe (No. 70) defeated Japan's lower-ranked Risa Sugimoto 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-8) to advance to the quarterfinals where she will face sixth-seeded Wai Yhann Au Yeong of Singapore.
Notably, all winners in the ongoing tournament will qualify to play for the World Championships in Chicago, set to be played from May 9 till 17.
