According to recent reports, the World Test Championship 2021-23 is set to commence on June 8 at the Oval. The World Test Championship 2021-23 will also see a reserve day as the inaugural championship final was interrupted  by frequent rain. The first day of the WTC Final 2019-21 was whitewashed with continuous downpour with the reserve day coming into place. New Zealand however secured a convincing win over India by eight wickets to clinch the first edition title.

India’s qualification scenario in WTC Final 2021-23

India is currently second in ICC Test Rankings having played 32 matches so far. The Men in Blue have 3,690 points, 22 more than No. 1 ranked Test team in Australia. If India clinches the four-match Test series against Australia by a 3-1 margin, they will end up at 62.5 per cent which will be greater than the maximum points. If India wins  by a margin of 3-0, they will end up at a better position to qualify for the WTC Final.

There is also another condition which remains in place. If India win the Test series by 1-0, 2-0, 2-1 (or) drawn by a 2-2 margin then one of the Test matches between SL & NZ must end in the draw for India to qualify for WTC 2023 finals. But if India end the Test series with result of 0-0, 0-1, 0-2, 0-3, 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 then they need to depend a lot on other teams' results in the upcoming series between NZ-SL & SA-WI game.
