After an intense bidding battle, the five teams in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 have finally created their squads for the inaugural edition of the tournament.  Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, UP Warriorz, and Gujarat Giants were the teams who took part in the auction.  A total of  448 went under the hammer out of which, only 87 were sold out. While 30 players were overseas, 47 were Indians who managed to get a team.

Indian opener Smriti Mandhana etched her name in history books as she became the first player to be auctioned in the history of WPL. The Indian vice-captain went to the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a price of INR 3.40 crores.

A total of 10 rounds of auction followed by three rounds of the accelerated auction took place and all franchises tried their best to assemble a solid squad. With the tournament set to begin on March 4, franchises will waste no time in appointing the leader of the team. Gujarat Giants - Beth Mooney

Australia’s run-machine Beth Mooney was bought by Gujarat Giants for INR 2 crore in WPL 2023 Auction. The all-rounder has ample experience in T20Is and was part of Australia's T20 World Cup-winning squad. Mooney has the ability to lead from the front and the franchise will be looking at Mooney as their skipper for the inaugural edition.
