The inaugural champions Mumbai Indians have entered the final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 after defeating Gujarat Giants in the eliminator at Brabourne Stadium. With this, MI have made it to their second WPL final in three years and will face Delhi Capitals in the title clash at Brabourne Stadium on March 15. Batting first, MI posted 213/4 in their 20 overs with Hayley Mathews and Nat Sciver-Brunt scoring 77 runs each. In reply, GG were bowled out 166 runs.
Coming to bat first losing the toss, Mumbai Indians lost their wicket at the score of 26 runs in 4.2 overs. After that, Hayley Mathews and Nat Sciver-Brunt put up a partnership of 133 runs for the second wicket. Mathews scored 77(50) runs hitting 10 fours and three sixes, while Nat Sciver also ended up scoring 77(41) runs 10 fours and two sixes. Apart from that, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scored a quickfire 36(12) runs as MI crossed the 210-run mark. For GG, Danielle Gibson took two wickets while Kashwee Gautam put one in her bag.
Hayley Mathews’ all-round performance guide MI to WPL 2025 final
Chasing the winning target, Gujarat Giants kept losing wickets at regular intervals. After a great knock with the bat, Hayley Mathews also shone with the ball taking three wickets. Danielle Gibson top scored with 34 runs off 24 balls while Phoebe Litchfield and Bharti Fulmali scored 31 and 30 runs each.
Apart from that, none of the other batters could play a big knock as GG were bowled out in 19.2 overs. For MI, Hayley Mathew registered figures of 3/31 while Amelia Kerr took two and Nat Sciver-Brunt and Shabnim Ismail scalped a wicket each.
