India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has appreciated Shafali Verma for her sensational batting efforts in the WPL 2025. Shafali was dropped from India’s 16-member WODI squad for Australia in December 2024, due to her underwhelming performances. However, she has shown signs of regaining her form as the right-handed opener played an essential role in helping Delhi conclude the round-robin stage of WPL 2025 at the top of the points tally with five wins. Delhi’s majestic performance has helped them to qualify for the WPL final for three consecutive times. Shafali is currently in the third spot on the chart of batters with most runs in WPL 2025, racking up 300 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 157.89. The 21-year-old has performed fabulously as an opener for Delhi and she will be expected to do wonders with her bat in the crucial final as well.
Shafali’s fierce batting style and unwavering spirit impressed her teammate Jemimah, who feels the young opener’s comeback in the national squad isn’t far away. “Shafali is such an inspiration in the way she’s come back. The kind of strike-rate and the kind of impact she’s been having for the team. I think it just shows her character. But to be dropped and to come back the way she did, I think hats off to her. I can’t wait to see her. I’m sure she’ll be back soon in the Indian team too," remarked Jemimah in a conversation with News18 ahead of the WPL 2025 final.
Delhi will look to end their final conundrum
DC will strive to showcase their best under their Australian captain Meg Lanning in the final of WPL 2025 to lift the coveted trophy. In the last couple of seasons, they ended their campaigns as runners-up after getting hammered by Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
Lanning has led the side from the front in this competition as she is placed just behind Shafali on the list of most successful batters in the season. The Aussie has smashed 263 runs in eight games at a fine average of 37.57. On March 15, Delhi will be squaring off either MI or Gujarat Giants (GG), who have made it to the playoffs.
