After a no-medal Day 1, Indian weightlifters delivered a phenomenal performance at Commonwealth Games 2022 by bagging six medals including two gold in different categories of the sport. Weightlifter Sanket Sagar opened India's medal tally as he clinched a silver medal in the Men's 55kg category.

The young prodigy was on his path to bag gold but fell short by 1kg as his Malaysian counterpart leapfrogged him in his final attempt and won the gold. Minutes after news broke out about Sagar winning the first medal for the country at Commonwealth Games 2022, social media was flooded with wishes for the weightlifter and everyone congratulated him for his outstanding performance.

While the Indians took this moment, WWE legend John Cena too seemed to be highly impressed with Sagar's performance as the wrestler shared the picture of the weightlifter in a Instagram post. The popular wrestler is known for sharing pictures of Indian celebrities on social media and Sanket Sagar is the latest to feature on Cena's official Instagram page.

Speaking of India's performance at CWG 2022, Indian athletes have maintained a good run in the tournament till now as the nation has bagged six medals so far. Interestingly, weightlifters have made the country proud as each and every medal has come from the weightlifting event.

After Mirabai Chanu opened India's account in gold tally, Jeremy Lalrinnunga (Men’s 67 kg) and Achinta Sheuli (Men's 73 kg), won gold medals on their Games debut. Earlier, Sanket Mahadev Sagar and Bindyarani Devi (both silver) and Gururaja Poojary (bronze) also made India proud with their podium finish. In team sports, Indian women's cricket team defeated Pakistan Women in a must-win game by eight wickets.

India men's hockey team too delivered a thumping performance against Ghana in their opener as they clinched the game by a huge margin of 11-0. In Badminton, Indian contingent booked a semi-final spot with a win over South Africa. The men's table tennis too stormed into semi-finals with a comprehensive win over Bangladesh.
