Virat Kohli supporters were seen venting out their frustration on the distinguished Dutch company Philips on Sunday, March 2. During India’s ongoing match against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 game in Dubai, Kohli came at number three after the Men in Blue lost opener Shubman Gill early in the third over of the match. After Gill’s wicket, the veteran’s responsibility was to stand with his captain Rohit Sharma and build a solid partnership to stabilise the innings. However, Kohli couldn’t hold his nerves and lost his wicket after scoring 11.
Against pacer Matt Henry in the seventh over, Kohli played a shot towards the short point where Glenn Phillips took a one-hand screamer while fielding in the spot. Phillips’ grab received appreciation from cricket buffs but Kohli fans looked rankled and displayed their anger on social media sites. Kohli fans mistakenly showed anger at the multinational company Philips instead of the New Zealand all-rounder Phillips. The attitude of Kohli supporters received criticism from some netizen. A user with a name Bruce Wayne wrote, “Ye Kohli fans ko koi samjhao bhai.” Another netizen named Vinesh Prabhu used stern words against Kohli supporters and wrote, “Gawaar and so called Virat Kohli fans are abusing Philips brand thinking it’s Glenn Phillips.”

Varun Chakravarthy cleaned up the opener and took his maiden Champions Trophy wicket. Daryl Mitchell also fell against Kuldeep Yadav after playing a lethargic innings of 17 off 35. As of writing, New Zealand are 128/3 in 31 overs, with Williamson playing at an unbeaten 61 off 87 and Tom Latham at an unbeaten 13 off 18.
