On Monday, September 2, Yogesh Kathuniya won a silver medal in the men’s discus throw F56 event at the Paris Paralympic Games 2024. In front of thousands of fans in attendance inside the Stade de France, the Indian athlete registered his season’s best throw of 42.22m, to get onto the podium in the Paralympics once again in his career.
With his impressive performance in the men’s discus throw final, Yogesh Kathuniya is the ninth multiple medallist at the Paralympic Games for India. Just a day ago, Preethi Pal became the eighth multiple medallist at the Paralympics, winning a bronze medal in the women’s 200m T35 event after registering third place in the women's 100m T35 event in the same games earlier.
Yogesh Kathuniya also secured the eighth medal for India at the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024, the third silver in total. Apart from the gold medal for Avani Lekhara, Indian athletes have earned four bronze medals in the Paralympic Games as well.
The gold medal in the men’s discus throw F36 event went to Claudiney Batista of Brazil with a new Paralympic record attempt reaching 46.86m. This was the third Paralympic medal for the Brazilian, who won a silver in London 2012 before reaching the top step of the podium in front of his adoring fans at home during Rio 2016.
