The Indian cricket team is currently locking horns with England in a highly-anticipated five-match Test series in the UK. While the Men in Blue did not have a start that was expected as despite putting up 835 runs across the two innings, they went down by five wickets. However, they bounced back, registering a historic win in the Edgbaston Test by 336 runs to level the series 1-1.
With a lot of pressure, especially on the young shoulders of Shubman Gill, who was promoted to the helm after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement, the Indian cricket team would look to get their first series win in 18 years. However, with the veterans of the game, Rohit and Kohli retired from the longest format, the latter recently made a public appearance, first at the Wimbledon 2025, followed by joining the greats at Yuvraj Singh’s charity event.
Virat Kohli breaks silence on Test retirement at YouWeCan charity event
Sharing the stage with some of the greats of the game, including Brian Lara, Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, among others, one of the hosts of the evening, Gaurav Kapoor managed to draw reaction on Virat Kohli’s Test retirement. “Everyone misses you on the field,” Gaurav Kapoor asked, to which the 36-year-old responded, “I just coloured my beard two days ago. You know it’s time when you are colouring your beard every four days.”
It is to be seen that with age by his side and Rohit Sharma also putting down curtains on his Test cricket career, Kohli also announced retirement within the next six days, leaving the Indian cricketing community as well as the fans in utter shock. Speaking at the charity event, Kohli also thanked former India cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri for his contribution in shaping his career.
"Honestly, if I wasn't working with him... what happened in Test cricket wouldn't have been possible. The clarity which we had together is very hard to find. It's everything for cricketers to grow in their careers. Even he hadn't backed me the way he did... those press conferences where he took the bullets from the front line. Things would have been different and I always have respect and regard for him, for being a massive part of my cricketing journey," Kohli said.
