On August 29, 2013, former Australia opener Aaron Finch played a 158-run knock against England in a T20 International (T20I) game played in Southampton. Winning the toss, England skipper Stuart Broad elected to field first. Broad got the better of David Warner in the second over of the match and delivered the first breakthrough to his side. Shaun Marsh also looked nervous and departed after scoring only 28 off 21. Finch looked relentless and came heavily on England’s bowling attack. He built a 101-run stand with Shane Watson for the third wicket off just 41 balls.

Finch completed his ton in just 47 balls with a maximum against Broad, who came to bowl his third over. After reaching his hundred, Finch became more ferocious and went on to become the first and only Aussie to hammer 150 runs. He crossed his individual score of 150-run mark in just 60 deliveries. He concluded his innings after hoarding 156 runs from 63 balls. Riding on his sensational knock, Australia posted a mammoth total of 248/6 after their 20 overs. The colossal target was too tall to achieve for the hosts as they could score only 209 runs in reply.

Aaron Finch still holds the record of highest individual T20I score

After five years of the Southampton knock, Finch bettered his record after racking up 172 runs off 76 against Zimbabwe in Harare in July 2018. This time, he was the captain of the Aussie side and as skipper, he led his side from the front and guided Australia to 1 huge 100-run victory.

Finch's 156 against England is in the third spot on the chart of T20I batters with the highest individual score. In T20Is, Finch hit two tons and on both occasions, when he scored centuries, he looked ruthless and went on to surpass the 150-run mark as an individual batter.
