Speaking after the event, Kushare said, “The competitions for the rest of the Indian athletics team are still to come, so we hope to see as many gold medals as possible. I didn’t get gold, but I managed to secure silver. Now, I will focus more on the upcoming Asian Games and prepare to win gold. If I had managed a 28 today, I would have won gold. There will be more opportunities in the future. I dedicate this medal to my entire family and my country.”

Kushare delivered an unforgettable performance, making history as India's first-ever Commonwealth Games silver medallist in the men's high jump. He successfully cleared 2.25m in the final but fell short at 2.28m after three attempts. Jamaica's Romaine Beckford also reached a best jump of 2.25m but took home the gold on countback, having cleared that height on his first try. Kushare needed three attempts to reach the same mark, which ultimately influenced the final results. England's Kimani Jack snagged the bronze with a jump of 2.20m.

This achievement adds another feather to Kushare's cap during an already impressive season. Just a month prior to the Games, he set a new Indian national record of 2.31m at the National Inter-State Championships. He carried that momentum into Glasgow, breezing through the initial heights before securing his spot on the podium with a successful jump at 2.25m. While Kushare celebrated this historic medal, fellow Indian Aadarsh Ram finished in fifth place, and 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Tejaswin Shankar had to withdraw after his opening jump.

Kushare's silver also bolstered India's performance at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, marking the country's fifth silver and tenth overall medal in the competition. So far, India has proudly collected two gold, five silver, and three bronze medals.
