Wimbledon 2026 has been throwing a lot of upsets of late and on Monday another top seed player crashed out of the tournament. Australia's Alex De Minaur who is ranked Number 6 in the world and was the favourite in his Round of 16 match faced a shocking defeat against Flavio Cobolli. Ahead of this fixture, Alex De Minaur had dominated the H2H meetings between these two players and he was a heavy favourite coming into this game but his performance was shocking as he could not win a single set.
The match started with Flavio Cobolli clinching the first set 7-5. It was a tight set with both players holding their serve in the first eleven games. Cobolli capitalised in the 12th game to get the break and clinched the first set. Alex De Minaur bounced back strongly in the second set and started to dominate as he took a lead 5-2. What followed was an epic collapse as Cobolli managed to break him and take the second set to a tie breaker.
Alex De Minaur lost the tie breaker and lost the second set 7-6. It was frustrating for the Aussie as he had the chance to close out the set but failed to do so. The third set followed a similar pattern with both players breaking each other multiple times but Flavio Cobolli managed to hold his serve and win the set 6-3 and defeated Alex De Minaur in straight sets. It was a shocking result as Alex De Minaur could not even win a single set and crashed out of Wimbledon 2026.
