Commonwealth Games 2026: Full List Of India's Events And Fixtures On July 24

The journey of India's athletes at the Commonwealth Games 2026 starts with full force on Friday, July 24, when many players will start their quest for medals in different disciplines. Following a splendid opening ceremony on Thursday, gymnastics, para powerlifting, and lawn bowls top the list of India's busy schedule on the first day of competition.

India has sent a delegation of 126 members for the Glasgow Games which will be held between July 23 and August 2 despite the trimmed sports agenda. India would try to impress everyone with its performance right from the first day as medals events will start straight away.

The medal events for India on Friday will see Ashok Kumar Malik, Parmjeet Kumar, Jaspreet Kaur, Suman Devi, Jhandu Kumar, and Sudhir competing in para powerlifting. While, after an excellent first win, lawn bowls team of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki will get back to their competition, boxer Jadumani Singh will begin his campaign in the evening session.

India's Schedule On July 24: Medal Events And Important Fixtures

Friday’s event schedule starts with men’s artistic gymnastics at 2:30 PM, which includes Tapan Mohanty, Swathish KP, Tapeshwarnath Das and Yogeshwar Singh. Para Swimming will take place next at 3:40 PM, which will see the participation of Ravi Veera and Imam Ali in the men’s S13 100m Freestyle heats and Srihari Nataraj in the men’s 50m Backstroke heats at 3:56 PM.

The attention will then turn towards the medal events of para powerlifting in order of men’s lightweight final at 5:40 PM, women’s lightweight final at 7:24 PM, women’s heavyweight at 10:40 PM, and men’s heavyweight after midnight. Lawn Bowls will be played between Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki vs. South Africa at 7:30 PM and Putul Sonowal against Cecil Alexander at 10:20 PM. The event schedule will conclude with Jadumani Singh playing the men’s 55 kg Boxing match at 11:00 PM.

Pinki Singh-Rupa Rani And Putul Sonowal Give India Early Boost In Lawn Bowls

India managed to get off to a good start in lawn bowls even prior to Friday's events. The Indian duo of Pinki Singh and Rupa Rani Tirkey won their women's pairs competition in Section B after defeating Connie Rixon and Rebecca Rixon of Malta 7-1 in the initial set and then winning the tie-break despite conceding a 5-2 defeat in the second set. It was noted that the Indians comprised the historic Birmingham 2022 gold medal-winning women's fours team.

India managed to pull off an upset in the men's singles category as well. The Indian veteran Putul Sonowal, competing for the first time at the Commonwealth Games aged 43 years old, defeated the reigning world champion Ryan Bester of Canada through a tie-break. Sonowal managed to edge the first set 5-4 but conceded a 7-3 defeat in the second set. The Indian eventually managed to win the tie-break, setting up a meeting with Cecil Alexander from the Falkland Islands. Meanwhile, Pinki and Rupa have to face South Africa in their next sectional encounter.

Lovlina Borgohain Assures India's First Medal Before Entering The Ring

The medal race in India has already started even before the athletes have started their battle. Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has already guaranteed herself at least a bronze medal by virtue of being granted an automatic pass into the semifinals of the women’s 75kg category. According to Commonwealth Games boxing regulations, all contestants who lose the semifinal bouts receive bronze medals, thus guaranteeing India its first medal of the Glasgow 2026 edition. Lovlina Borgohain will start her campaign with the match against Tuvalu’s Tarona Khanum Badi Pasoni Taafaki on July 31.
