World Number 2 Alexander Zverev, who had lost his previous seven matches against Taylor Fritz turned that challenge and delivered a flawless performance to beat the American in the Quarter-Final. He flipped the script with a clinical 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 victory against Taylor Fritz after one hour, 59 minutes. The German completely dominated the match and looked in stunning form. Notably, Zverev won his first major title at Roland Garros just a few months back. He also became the fifth German in the Open Era to reach the last four at Wimbledon.
Prior to this edition, Zverev had never advanced past the fourth round in nine Wimbledon appearances. He has also become only the fifth active Men’s player to reach the semi-finals at all four major tournaments joining Novak Djokovic, Marin Cilic, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. The 29-year-old Zverev will be up against British wild card Arthur Fery in the semi-final as they fight for a place in the Final of Wimbledon 2026.
He's been beating me for two years straight, happy to get the win: Alexander Zverev
After winning the match, Zverev sounded very confident and relieved after getting the win over Fritz. “I hope to play two more matches here,” he said with a smile. “But for now, I’m extremely happy to be in the semi-finals, especially against Taylor, who I haven’t [beaten] in more than two years. He's been beating me for two years straight. I played a fantastic match and I’m very happy to be in the semi-finals,” he added.
Zverev looked in a jovial mood during his on-court interview after beating at Wimbledon. Looking ahead to his next-round clash with British wild card Arthur Fery, the German joked that the crowd would be firmly behind his opponent. "It's okay. You guys can all be for Fery, I understand it," he said, before adding with a laugh.
"I hope good for me and not so good for everyone else." Zverev also described Fery's run as a fairytale story but backed himself to get the job done. He said, “I think I have to trust myself. I have to trust my tennis. Hopefully, I can just show a good performance and we'll see what happens," the German further said.
Wimbledon 2026 is down to the semi-final stage with Alexander Zverev set to take on Arthur Fery, while Novak Djokovic will be up against Jannik Sinner. Both the Men's semi-final matches are set to take place on 10th July.
