Indian long-distance runner Gulveer Singh has made history by becoming the first Indian to snag a medal in the men's 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games. He achieved this remarkable feat by clinching silver in the 25-lap race held at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow, finishing with a time of 27:49.78. Gulveer delivered an impressive late surge on a rain-soaked track, securing this landmark result. After the race, Gulveer spoke about keeping his preparations simple and staying calm before the start. He said, "I had left everything on God. Before the race I told almighty, dekh lena [please watch over me]. It always feels good to win a medal. The race was good, there was rain but when you win a medal it hardly matters if there is rain, sunshine, heat or anything else."

Despite the challenging conditions and relentless rain, the Indian runner kept his cool for most of the race, opting not to chase the early leaders.

As the race approached its thrilling conclusion, Gulveer gradually positioned himself for a shot at a medal. He executed his final push flawlessly, unleashing a powerful kick to pass Isle of Man's David Mullarkey in the final stretch. Gulveer finished strong with a time of 27:49.78, while Mullarkey took home the bronze in 27:50.28. Australia's Ky Robinson secured the gold medal.

This silver medal was significant for several reasons. It marked India's first-ever Commonwealth Games medal in the men's 10,000m and showcased Gulveer's knack for sticking to a disciplined race strategy under pressure.
