On Sunday, September 7, India defeated South Korea by 4-1 margin in the final of Asia Cup 2025 men’s hockey tournament at the Bihar Sports University Hockey Stadium in Rajgir. With this win, India lifted their fourth coveted title at the tournament after earlier winning it in 2003, 2007 and 2017, and find themselves just one behind their opponents in the all-time list.
In the summit clash on Sunday, India dominated South Korea from the start till the finish, scoring a goal in each of the four quarters. Sukhjeet Singh began the charge, scoring a goal in the first minute, followed by two goals coming from Dilpreet Singh and one from Amit Rohidas as the game progressed. Dain Son of Korea was the only scorer from the opposition.
Hockey India announces INR 3 Lakh prize money for players
Soon after the victory, Hockey India announced cash rewards for the players and members of the support staff. "Following India’s historic fourth Asia Cup triumph at the Hero Asia Cup Rajgir, Bihar 2025, Hockey India is delighted to announce rewards of ₹3 lakh each for players and ₹1.5 lakh each for the support staff," Hockey India’s statement read.
Ending their eight-year wait for the Asia Cup title, India also became the eighth team to earn a direct qualification for the FIH Hockey World Cup, set to be played next year in Belgium and the Netherlands. India joins Belgium, the Netherlands, Australia, Spain, Argentina, Germany and New Zealand in the World Cup, who earned qualifications across various stages.
