On Saturday, September 13, Indian women’s boxer Jaismine Lamboria won a historic gold medal for the country at the World Boxing Championship 2025, held at the Liverpool Arena in England. The 24-year-old defeated the Olympic silver medallist Julia Szeremata of Poland in a pulsating final of the women’s 57kg category, to become the ninth women’s boxer from India to win a World Boxing Championship title on the grand stage.
With that, Jaismine Lamboria now features in the illustrious list of Indian women’s boxers to become world champion, including names like MC Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain, Nitu Ghanghas, Saweety Boora, Jenny RL, and Lekha KC. In the final of the women’s 57kg category at the World Boxing Championship 2025, Jaismine Lamboria was in a tough situation early with her opponent Julia Szeremeta starting off in the first round with a flyer.
But, in the second round, the Indian women’s boxer managed to get control of the final with the usage of her better reach and impressive counterpunching. From that point onwards, Jaismine Lamboria didn’t allow the Polish women to make a comeback before defeating her 4-1 on split decision, to win the title, and in her first comments, she said to Olympics.com, “This feeling can’t be expressed in words, I’m so happy to be a world champion.”

“After my early exit at Paris 2024, I worked hard on both my technique and mental strength. This medal is the reward for a year of relentless dedication,” she added. In the final of the women’s 80+kg in the World Boxing Championships 2025, Nupur Sheoran of India lost to Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska 3-2 on split decision, to settle for the silver medal, while Minaksi Hooda will take on Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan in the women’s 48kg final on Sunday, September 14.
Also, Pooja Rani of India won the bronze medal in the women’s 75kg category of the Women’s Boxing Championships 2025 after losing to Emily Asquith from England 1-4 in the semi-finals.
