During her clash with Sorana Cristea in the second round of US Open 2025 on August 28, Czech Tennis star Karolina Muchovas was seen visibly shaken in the middle of the match and broke down into tears. During the first set of the match, Muchova paused mid-serve was seen wiping her tears with a towel. After that, she apologised to the chair umpire for pausing the game in between.

At that time, the fans were left wondering what could be the reason for Karolina Muchova’s breakdown in the middle of the game. Now, after a couple of days, she finally revealed the reason for this during a press conference. Muchova confirmed that the breakdown wasn’t related to tennis but she spotted her ex in the crowd.

"Well it wasn't tennis-related," Muchovas was quoted as saying by India Today. "Opposite my bench, my ex-boyfriend sat down. He sometimes shows up at places where he shouldn't be. That startled me a bit. I told him to leave. He didn't at first, but later he did go. It was hard to focus in that moment,” she further explained.

I don’t know: Karolina Muchova on repeating this again in future

Despite such distraction, Karolina Muchova showed her brilliance on the court and went on to defeat Sorana Cristea by 7-6, 6-7, 6-4. Before that, she also defeated Venuss Williams in the first round, and now came out victorious against her country-mate Linda Noskova in the third round.

Speaking on the breakdown incident, Muchova said that she is fine now but didn’t give any clarity on whether such incident will happen again in future or not.

"Yeah, I'm alright. I didn't make any report and everything is good," Muchova said.

"I mean, who knows, right? I don't know,” she said when asked about whether this will happen again or not.
