On Monday, September 1, legend Novak Djokovic defeated Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in three-straight sets at the Arthur Ashe Stadium to progress into the quarter-finals of the ongoing US Open 2025. The 38-year-old, who returned to action after his semi-final loss against Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon 2025, defeated his German opponent in a battle that lasted for one hour and 59 minutes.
The Serb, who has been struggling with several injuries, was seen battle past the discomforts and went on to become the oldest quarter-finalist after victory over Struff. During his round of 16 clash, the Serb looked flawless, dismissing the 144th ranked German 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 as he now sets his eyes on his 14th quarterfinal appearance.

The seventh-seeded, who is eyeing his record 25th Grand Slam title at the ongoing tennis major, became the oldest to reach the US Open quarterfinals since Jimmy Connors, who achieved this feat in 1991. Moreover, it also marks Djokovic’s 64th Grand Slam last-eight appearance. It is to be noted that the Serbian has reached quarter-finals at every major in a year for ninth time in his career, breaking a tie with Roger Federer for the most of any man or woman in the Open Era.
As he progresses into the last eight of the US Open 2025, he will face America’s Taylor Fritz, who is coming off a win over Czech tennis player Tomas Machac 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. Speaking of the head-to-head record of Djokovic with Fritz, the Serbian leads 10-0.
