In a blockbuster development from the world of boxing, Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather, who are both former world champions, have signed a deal to fight in an exhibition boxing match in 2026. The highly anticipated bout is put together by CSI Sports/Fight Sports, and while there aren’t any details regarding the date, venue, rules, and broadcast yet, a lot of buzz and chatter has been generated already because of the involvement of Tyson and Mayweather.
Mike Tyson, 59, is a former undisputed heavyweight champion in boxing, who managed to earn a whopping 50 wins and seven losses in 59 matches in the coveted weight class in the sport before calling it a day in 2005. But then, he decided to come out of his 19-year retirement in 2024 in a match against Jake Paul, which he ended up losing in controversial manner at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas last November.
As far as Floyd Mayweather is concerned, he retired from boxing in 2017 after staying undefeated in 50 fights and winning multiple world titles across five weight classes, most prominently at welterweight. Since then, the 48-year-old has been in various exhibition boxing matches, including his last one against John Gotti III in August 2024 going the distance without any judges.
This fight is as unpredictable as it gets: Mike Tyson on upcoming match vs Floyd Mayweather
In his first reaction to the major announcement, Mike Tyson said, “This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets.” Meanwhile, Floyd Mayweather remarked, “You already know that if I am going to do something, it's going to be big and it's going to be legendary. I'm the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”
Also, it is important to remember that a formal winner generally isn’t announced after the completion of an exhibition boxing match, and it isn’t added to the professional career record of any of the fighters involved.
